Gaining the World—Losing Your Soul // Gen 36

This is the story of Esau's legacy, and the eventual downfall thereof. He did not value God, or the things of God. He was a carnal man and yet God still blessed him on earth. Sadly, his people (the Edomites) became perennial enemies with Israel (though he and Jacob/Israel had personally reconciled). In fact, the entire OT book of Obadiah is about the judgement of the Edomites. The Edomites became the Idumeans, which ultimately led to The Herod's in the NT who, through the 4 of them, tried to literally kill Christ and crush the Church. They failed, and the Edomites/Idumeans ceased to exist. Taking the long view, this is not a good legacy to leave.
