- Audience: The returned Jewish community in Judah (Jerusalem rebuilt, but spiritually apathetic)
- Purpose: To confront Israel’s spiritual decline, call for repentance, and point to the coming Messiah and Day of the Lord.
- Structure: 4 chapters — written as a dialogue between God and the people, with a series of disputes or accusations.
