Before Sodom & Gomorrah are destroyed because of their great sins, the angels visit what seems to be the only "righteous" person in the cities — Lot. Sadly, he has lived a life of comPROMISE and forfeited the PROMISE of God for a powerless existence. He has had no Godly impact on the city and in fact ends up losing pretty much everything and everyone close to him. There is a lot for us modern Christians to learn from the life of Lot.
